Royal Tapestry Factory events

Through its program of guided tours, the Royal Tapestry Factory offers the possibility of contemplating the work of the weavers in its living museum. In addition, with the aim of continuing to promote knowledge and appreciation of textile art, temporary exhibitions are organized at the headquarters and those of collaborating entities.

The Real Fábrica de Tapices will give, for the first time in Soria, a conference this Wednesday, January 26 at 7 p.m. in the Aula Magna Tirso de Molina (C/ Calixto, 3).

Our CEO, Alejandro Klecker, has given a lecture on the Royal Tapestry Factory in Youtopia, one of the most exclusive and avant-garde cultural centers in Madrid. During his speech, he explained the history of our company.

Real carpets

The first step is the careful selection of the materials and the dyes that will color the fibers. Both factors are decisive for the aesthetics and durability of the carpet, and are therefore subject to rigorous quality controls. The customer can participate in the selection of materials and colors, so that the carpet is perfectly adapted to his needs.

The Royal Tapestry Factory specializes in the restoration of European knotted carpets, but has a team of experts capable of restoring all types of manual and mechanical carpets.

The maintenance unit offers the possibility of moving to remove the pieces to be intervened in the facilities of the Royal Factory, specially adapted for the professional treatment of current and historical carpets. Once cleaned and stabilized, the carpets are reinstalled in institutions or private homes at no additional cost to the client.

The Royal Tapestry Factory’s R&D program has developed the most advanced immersion cleaning system in Europe. The system is specially designed for the aqueous washing of large-format fabrics. For its research and development, the CSIC, the Historic Royal Places and the IPHE were consulted.

Custom carpets

Included in our first day in Turkey was a visit to a carpet factory in Cappadocia. It seemed perfectly normal to me, since I was in the land of the Thousand and One Nights. Why not, right? But I confess that the program didn’t excite me as much as taking the early morning balloon flight over the fairy chimneys. But I had already done that. So a leisurely visit, not at all giddy and constructive, was most welcome.

The factory was actually a school located in the town of Avanos, intended for courses promoted by the Ministry of Education. Our group was welcomed and we were immediately immersed in the weaving workshops. Some of the looms were on display for us to inspect. They were unlike anything I had ever seen before.

Numerous women were seated on low benches in front of the looms, the colored threads and the matrix of the carpet they intended to weave. In this Cappadocian carpet factory, everyone seemed to know their task well. The fingers of these women glided swiftly, threading the threads, combining the colors. The symmetrical knot or Turkish knot is used for this purpose.
